FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are you members of the British Wood Preserving & Damp Proofing Association (BWPDA)?
Yes. The BWPDA is the largest association of its kind in Europe, setting high standards of technical competence, health, safety, environmental protection and customer service. In addition to this, Building Maintenance Control is a member of the Property Care Association and the British Structural Waterproofing Association. We also have NHBA recognition.
Can you offer Guarantees for your work and if so how long for?
Yes. Our damp proofing, timber and dry rot treatments are guaranteed for a period of 30 years, wall tie replacement for 20 years and waterproof tanking for 10 years.
Can your Guarantees be insurance backed?
Yes. Only BWPDA members can offer insurance backed guarantees through The Guarantee Protection Trust (GPI). This is a true insurance, not to be confused with lesser schemes offered by chemical suppliers to smaller companies.
Is the Guarantee transferable if I sell my property?
Yes. Subject to an administration fee, the Guarantee is fully transferable.
Can you offer quotations over the telephone?
No. Unlike some of our competitors, we do not have set or pre-determined costings for properties of differing sizes. We believe each property is unique and that a survey will be necessary to establish the full extent of any problem and the most effective way to resolve it.
Is the survey free?
Generally yes. In some situations a fee will be requested which can be discussed upon your request.
How long does a survey take and can it be disruptive?
Generally not. However it must be appreciated that furniture, floor coverings, personal and stored effects, may restrict our surveyor's inspection. Any restrictions will be reflected in how detailed the report will be. Each inspection is unique given the circumstances. A very basic inspection can be completed easily within an hour, alternatively more detailed inspections on larger properties may take days to complete.
How quickly will I receive my report following the inspection?
In the majority of situations, our surveyor will contact you following the inspection with a view to discussing his findings and any subsequent recommendations. It is our objective that the majority of written reports are sent within 48 hours of the survey. Larger properties and where a more detailed report is required, may take slightly longer.
Do you use sub-contract labour?
Our treatment and plastering crews are directly employed by Building Maintenance Control. Our electrical and plumbing works are carried out by trusted sub-contractors whom we have used for many years
How long will the treatment take and do I have to move out?
Many of the treatments carried out by Building Maintenance Control are done so in occupied properties. The duration of the contract is determined subject to the nature of the works proposed. A basic timber treatment could be completed easily within a day. Damp proofing and replastering contracts may require many days to complete. Given the nature of the treatment proposed, there may be the need for an exclusion period from the treated areas of the property. If the work proposed requires the removal of kitchens, bathrooms and toilet facilities etc, then you may decide not to occupy the property whilst the works are in progress.
How can I pay for the work once it is complete?
We invoice upon completion or in stages during the course of larger contracts. Payment can be made either by credit card, debit card or cheque.
How can I arrange a survey?
By using our Online Survey request or by contacting our Head Office on 0800 731 4387.
We trust the information above is of some assistance and would welcome the opportunity of discussing any specific requirements upon your request.
